Brock University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in
Theatre at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor commencing July
1,
2001, subject to final budgetary approval.  The successful candidate
will
have an MFA or MA or PhD or equivalent in Theatre with professional
theatre
experience along with teaching experience primarily Directing, with a
second area of interest and ability, e.g. Acting, Design, Playwriting,
Technical Theatre.  Experience working with an interdisciplinary program

and/or experience in combining the academic with practical theatre arts
is
an asset.  The salary is competitive and commensurate with
qualifications.

The Department of Fine Arts consists of two programs, Visual Arts, and
Theatre, Dramatic Literature and Drama in Education.  The latter program

has 4 tenured or tenure track faculty in theatre and dramatic
literature,
two full time technical staff with part-time assistants and several
part-time instructors drawn from the professional theatre.  It offers BA

and BA Honours in Theatre, Dramatic Literature or Drama in
Education/Theatre; a four-year BA in Theatre; and co-op options.  The
program offers students exposure to both traditional, text based theatre

and image/movement theatre, as well as to a range of dramatic literature

courses, a variety of practical theatre courses and a number of courses
in
drama and theatre in education.  Recent productions have included an
adaptation of an Inuit myth, Hedda Gabler presented in both full-text
and
image/movement theatre versions.  Detailed information on the Program

Brock University is located in St. Catharines, Ontario in the heart of
the
scenic Niagara Peninsula, approximately one hour's drive from Toronto
and
40 minutes from Buffalo, New York.   Nearby theatres include The Shaw
Festival; The Stratford Theatre Festival; Theatre Aquarius, Hamilton;
The
Blyth Summer Theatre, Blyth; The Vagabond Theatre, St. Catharines; and
theatres in Toronto and Buffalo.
