Don Druick's new play takes us to the last rehearsal and first performance
of the 1857 melodrama The Frozen Deep by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins.
Set in Dickens' London home and performed by his friends and family, The
Frozen Deep tells the story of two arctic explorers (played by Dickens and
Collins) in love with the same woman (played by Dickens' wife Catherine).
As Dickens and Collins furiously rewrite their script, two dangerous love
stories play themselves out - on and offstage.

Featuring:
Julian Richings as Dickens, Caroline Gillis as Catherine and Graeme
Somerville as Collins; with Pierre Brault, Christine Brubaker, Pippa
Domville, Tracey Ferencz, Tony Nappo, Liisa Repo-Martell and Bruce Vavrina

Hope to see you there,
Brian Quirt, Artistic Director and Naomi Campbell, Producer

Nightswimming also congratulates Jason Sherman on his Governor General's
Award nomination for AN ACRE OF TIME: the play, inspired by the book by Phil
Jenkins.

Commissioned by Nightswimming in 1997, this hilarious and moving play tells
the story of one acre of what is now the Lebreton Flats in downtown Ottawa.
In her study of the acre, a surveyor named Julia finds a passageway not only
to the history of the place, but to her own personal history as well.
Tracing the land's story through its Aboriginal, French, English and finally
Canadian residents and owners, AN ACRE OF TIME is a theatrical microcosm of
Canadian history. "Jason Sherman's most poetic and poignant play." -- CBC
Radio

AN ACRE OF TIME was commissioned and developed by Nightswimming in
association with the Great Canadian Theatre Company (Ottawa) and the
Tarragon Theatre (Toronto). It premiered at GCTC in 2000; a revised version
premiered at the Tarragon in 2001.

Nightswimming also congratulates two of its recent collaborators for their
Governor General's Award nominations: Michael Redhill (for his play BUILDING
JERUSALEM) and Jane Urquhart (for her novel THE STONE CARVERS).

Nightswimming is a dramaturgical company which develops new plays,
performance works and dance. We commit to long-term relationships with our
writers and provide them with the tools they need: substantial commissions;
readings and workshops as required; high calibre casts; research; colleagues
from the areas of design, choreography and music; on-going dramaturgical
support; and a developmental process that is uniquely suited to their
requirements. We believe this approach has and will continue to inspire
these artists to create some of their best work.

Recent projects have included the following commissions: Jason Sherman's AN
ACRE OF TIME; Brian Quirt's adaptation of Jane Urquhart's novel, THE
WHIRLPOOL (Tarragon Theatre); Ned Dickens CITY OF WINE trilogy; and Julia
Sasso's choreographic piece, BEAUTY, which will premiere next June at the
Canada Dance Festival.

Nightswimming is generously supported by The Canada Council for the Arts,
The Ontario Arts Council, The City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts
Council, The Laidlaw Foundation and many private patrons and donors. Our
work on The Frozen Deep has been supported by the National Arts Centre
(Ottawa).
