THEATRE TECHNICAL PRODUCTION MANAGER
DEPARTMENT OF DRAMATIC ARTS, SCHOOL OF FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

Term Full-time
(2-year contract with possible renewal; 40 hours per week)

Reporting to the Director of the School of Fine and Performing Arts (SFPA)
on administrative issues and to the
Chair of Dramatic Arts on operational issues, your primary responsibility
will be to work with the Chair and
producing faculty to manage the production activities and the production
personnel of the Department of Dramatic
Arts. In consultation with the Chair, you will create the critical path for
planning and coordinating production
budgets, production schedules and resources and to coordinate and manage the
execution of all production
related activities (ie. various class-outcomes, minor and major productions
and off-campus outreach activities).
Liaison and consultation with the university’s professional and other
municipal and regional interests in the fine
and performing arts will be an important aspect of the job, assisting the
SFPA to define its developing position in
the community. In addition, you will direct a long-range departmental
Technical Resource/Space Resource/
Equipment plan and coordinate the production staff to organize, maintain and
deploy technical equipment, space
and resources within this plan. Duties will also include: hiring additional
contract workers; negotiating contracts
and royalties for SFPA productions; providing production management in areas
including budget, personnel
management/communications and scheduling for the main stage season and other
events; providing hands-on
technical support to guide and train students engaged in departmental or
SFPA outreach events for the University;
and consult, coordinate and collaborate with a range of course instructors
across all streams of study to provide
the best possible technical support for course delivery .

The successful candidate will possess a University degree with
specialization in theatre or successful completion
of a specialized training program in theatre production management, or
equivalent experience in a professional
theatre combined with 7 years related experience in professional theatre
production, including demonstrated
management experience. Familiarity with the disciplines of Theatre, Art,
Music and Dance are essential.
Experience with the demands of producing the fine and performing arts in a
university environment is an asset.

The Department of Dramatic Arts, part of the School of Fine and Performing
Arts, Faculty of Humanities, requires
a Theatre Technical Production Assistant for a nine-month (September to
May), 40 hours per week on-going
seasonal position.

The Theatre Technical Production Assistant will assist with the maintenance
and deployment of Department
technical equipment and facilities as directed by the Departmental Chair in
coordination with the Production team,
including documentation and replacement as required, as well as the
maintenance of a small inventory of audiovisual and computer equipment.
Duties will include providing technical and artistic support to Department
productions as coordinated by the Production Manager, the Technical Director
and the production team, including
providing guidance to students and student technicians in support of
departmental or SFPA outreach events for
the University, etc. The successful candidate will also collaborate with a
range of course instructors across all
streams of study (Dramatic Literature, Theatre and Drama in Education and
Society) to support course delivery as
it relates to design and stagecraft.

Qualifications include a degree in technical theatre or equivalent with at
least one year of professional experience,
or five years of diversified professional theatre experience. Training in
operation of digital and analog sound
systems, computer sound and video editing, computerized lighting systems,
etc. is desirable. Familiarity with
safety protocols for a theatre production environment and first aid training
are assets. Must possess excellent
interpersonal, communication and time management skills to be able to work
in a collegial and committed
environment. Must be flexible to work evening and/or weekend hours as
required. Heavy lifting, working at
heights and other physical tasks are required to perform the job.


Brock University is located in St. Catharines, Ontario. We are a short
distance from the Shaw Festival, 45 mins
from Buffalo, 1h 25 m from Toronto and 2h40m from Stratford, accessible by
bus and train.
