A lawyer from Venice, Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793) is known today as a
great playwright and a reformer of the Comedia del?arte. As the plays
are no longer improvised but written, the clarity of intrigue increases
while Harlequin and his cohorts lose their masks. To commemorate
Goldoni?s 300th birthday, the Museum, in collaboration with the
Association des vénitiens du Canada, the Province of Venice and
Associations of craftsmen in Venice, presents an exhibition reuniting
traditional and contemporary craft pieces from Venice.

Theatre at the Salle Émile-Legault
The Cégep de Saint-Laurent?s Prospépéro theatre student troop presents
Carlo Goldoni?s
L?éventail (The Fan). In a small Italian village, everyone is minding
their usual business when suddenly, from the top of her balcony,
Signora Geltruda drops her fan. It breaks. Signor Evaristo,
passionately in love with the Signora, offers her another. From that
moment onwards, a myriad of misunderstandings reignites old rivalries
and brings forth hidden emotions: love, pride, jealousy, envy? an
explosive mix certain to make you laugh. Text (in French) : Ginette
Herry
Direction : Philippe Lambert March 20, 21, 22 2007, 7:30 pm

The Atelier Lyrique de l?Opéra de Montréal presents Il mondo della Luna
by Haydn. A drama giocoso in three acts, the libretto is written by
Carlo Goldini. Lying somewhere between opera and musical comedy, Il
mondo della luna is a simple love story? or is it? A man is in love
with a young girl whose father refuses to let her marry. The simple
story soon takes a fantastical turn when the tearful lover decides to
take the cantankerous old man on a journey to the moon!
