The next FIRT-IFTR annual conference, on the theme of 'Re-constructing Asian-ness(es) in the Global Age', will take place on 14-19 July 2008 in Seoul. Proposals for papers are invited by 30 November 2007. As usual there will also be a thriving New Scholars' Forum (closing date for proposals: 15 December 2007) and a New Scholar's Prize (closing date 15 December 2007). For all information please visit the conference website at http://www.iftr2008.org/

We look forward to welcoming members to this, the Federation's first conference in East Asia. Former members may take this opportunity to renew their association with IFTR by taking advantage of the reduced conference fee at the time of enrolment.

Joint Secretary General, FIRT-IFTR

"La Pocha Nostra is a virtual maquiladora [. . . ] that produces brand-new metaphors, symbols, images, and words to explain the complexities of our times. The Spanglish neologism Pocha Nostra translates as either 'our impurities' or 'the cartel of cultural bastards.' We love this poetic ambiguity. It reveals an attitude toward art and society: 'Crossracial, poly-gendered, experi-mental, ¿y qué?' " --Guilllermo Gómez-Peña.
