Dear colleagues,

I'm pleased to announce that the 2008 meeting of the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies will take place in Montreal, 15-18 October at the Doubletree by Hilton Montréal Centre-Ville Hotel.

The theme of this year's conference is "The Eighteenth Century: Influence of the Past, Presence of the Future". The plenary speakers are Jack Lynch (Rutgers University) and Benoît Melançon (Université de Montréal). As is traditional for CSECS, papers not on the conference theme will also be considered. CSECS is an interdisciplinary organisation and the conference will encompass literature, languages, history, art, music, etc. Papers on 18th century theatre will be welcomed.

The full call for papers is available online: http://burneycentre.mcgill.ca/csecs-scedhs-2008/cfp.html and a pdf version is attached to this message. Proposals for papers or panels should be sent to fiona.ritchie at mcgill.ca by 30 April 2008.

I would be grateful if you could circulate this information as widely as possible - please encourage any eighteenth-century scholars you know to visit Montreal for this event!
