Subject: [scds-secd-l] Summer job for a university student at DCD

We are accepting applications for the following 10-week summer position.
Deadline is May 16. Applicants must be under 30 years old and between
university years.

Collections Assistant, Dance Collection Danse
This is a ten-week position focused on re-housing, condition reporting
and cataloguing the Nesta Toumine Costume Collection and Papers. Nesta
Williams was a dancer with Col. de Basil’s Ballets Russes in the late
1930s and 1940s. She married dancer Slava Toumine and they resettled in
her home-town of Ottawa after World War II where she started a ballet
company and school; Slava was the primary designer for their
productions. Her company, the Ottawa Classical Ballet, was an important
group in the regional ballet movement that preceded the founding of the
National Ballet of Canada and the Canada Council. The successful
candidate will work with papers, photographs and textiles.
Qualifications include enrolment in a recognized museum studies or
conservation program in Canada with plans to return to school in the
fall and applicants must be under 30 years of age. Knowledge of Canadian
dance history is an asset and fluency in English is essential.

Location: Dance Collection Danse, 145 George St., Toronto, ON
Wage: $15/hour, 30 hours per week
Start and End dates: June 11, 2012 to August 17, 2012

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will be in the process of acquiring a degree or
diploma in museum studies or conservation. Familiarity with Canadian
dance history, performing arts history or theatrical costuming is an
asset. Strong writing and communication skills and a detail-oriented
nature are also important. A basic knowledge of word processing, e-mail,
web browsing and database software is ideal; however, time has been
allocated to teach the student how to use the software necessary for
this project. DCD is an equal-opportunity employer and is open to
receiving applications from all Canadian citizens who meet the YCW
eligibility criteria.

Resumés and a covering letter must be sent by May 16, 2012 by e-mail to
