Dear list members,

Those of you living in the Toronto area may be interested in an
upcoming concert by the Toronto Continuo Collective on May 20th and
21st.

The concert is of 17th century French airs de cour, divertissements
and opera excerpts. Throughout the past academic year, I have been
training the singers in the declamatory pronunciation of 17th century
France as well as staging certain arias according to historical
practices. The performance is thus as much a
research-through-performance project as it is a concert of baroque
music. Moreover, it's a rare opportunity for people living in Toronto
to see a live performance involving early French performance practice
applied to both comic and tragic repertoire. It's also an opportunity
to hear some lesser-known composers (though there will also be some
Lully and Charpentier), such as Guédron, Boësset, Moulinié, La Barre,
Le Camus and Lambert to name but a few.

There will be 2 performances: May 20th and 21st at 8 p.m. at Royal St.
George's college chapel (120 Howland Ave. in the Annex). Admission is
by donation, and a program with translations of all the texts will be
distributed.

For more information, feel free to email me off list
(alarnason at gmail.com) or visit www.continuo.ca. I've also attached the
official ad that went out in Whole Note magazine.

Best wishes,

      Luke Arnason
