TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN THEATRE 

Simon Fraser University – The School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a tenure track position in theatre at the Assistant Professor level, beginning September 1, 2013 (or the candidate’s earliest availability).  An MFA or equivalent is required, along with experience as a teacher of theatre at the university level.  The successful applicant will have a strong record both as a theatre director, and as a teacher of acting.  An applicant’s artistic work should clearly reflect contemporary or experimental issues in art and performance; a background of interdisciplinary art production would be advantageous.

The BFA in Theatre (Performance) is a studio-based ensemble program that includes acting, movement, voice, speech, clown/mask, devising, dramaturgy, and directing.  The successful applicant will direct theatre productions, teach physical and text-based acting at fundamental and advanced levels, and share teaching responsibilities for the BFA.  This includes clown/mask, devising, dramaturgy, directing, dramatic literature and theatre history. 

The School for the Contemporary Arts is an interdisciplinary fine and performing arts program which includes disciplinary training in: Visual Culture and Performance Studies, Dance, Film, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts.  The School offers a BFA in Theatre (Performance or Production/Design), an Extended Minor in Theatre (Production/Design), and an Interdisciplinary MFA program.  Faculty at the School are required to maintain a professional art practice and/or scholarly activity.  Advising, committee responsibilities, and supervision of graduate students are expected.
