OPGRC Problem Gambling Research Talk

April 18, 2:30-4:00, Tatham Ctr 2218

Robert Simpson, CEO of the Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre (OPGRC),
will be on campus to give a talk about the OPGRC and its "Problem Gambling
Framework," a document that identifies the Centre's priority areas for
research and research funding. Mr. Simpson will be discussing UW's role in
the Framework, and will provide information about the OPGRC funding program,
which granted over $3 million last year for problem gambling research.

This event also marks the launch of the Waterloo Emerging Team for research
in problem gambling. The new Waterloo Team will investigate the impacts of
the gambling environment (particularly slot machine design) on gambling
behaviour. Led by Dr. Kevin Harrigan, and supported by $500,000 in OPGRC
funding, this multi-disciplinary research group includes Drs. Glenn Stillar,
David Goodwin, Jill Tomasson Goodwin, and Mike Dixon, and doctoral student
Jeff Stacey.

RSVP: If you plan to attend this event, please let me
(aroorda at uwaterloo.ca) know-the Emerging Team wants to ensure enough cake
and cookies to go round!
