Rei Terada is Professor of Comparative Literature at the University  
of California, Irvine. She is the author of Looking Away:  
Phenomenality and Dissatisfaction, Kant to Adorno (2009), Feeling in  
Theory: Emotion after the “Death of the Subject” (2001), and Derek  
Walcott's Poetry: American Mimicry (1992).
