Greetings colleagues;

I want to bring to your attention the Magnetic North Theatre Festival,
Canada's biggest English language festival of Canadian theatre.

Kitchener-Waterloo is hosting the festival for 10 days in June, from the
9th to the 19th. 10 shows will be presented in a host of venues
including UW's Theatre of the Arts, the Centre in the Square, the
Registry Theatre and others, in both cities. UW is a venue sponsor and
supporter: young theatre artists and students involved with the Compass
Points program will be on campus attending the festival and launching
their careers; the Theatre of the Arts is a the venue for two
productions; and the whole festival will animate the venues and the city
streets with exciting, provocative live performances.

Plan to see Mump & Smoot
<http://www.magneticnorthfestival.ca/pages/programming/mumpandsmootcracked.h
tml>,
Canada's clowns of horror (definitely not for the kids), in the Theatre
of the Arts June 9 - 13; or Elephant Wake
<http://www.magneticnorthfestival.ca/pages/programming/elephant_wake.html>,
from Saskatchewan's Globe Theatre, a haunting and moody examination of
the death of a small town, in the Theatre of the Arts June 14 - 19; or
any of the other notable, award-winning productions. Local theatre
companies and artists are prominently featured in a a variety of ways,
including MT Space's The Last 15 Seconds
<http://www.magneticnorthfestival.ca/pages/programming/15_seconds.html>
at the Registry Theatre June 11 - 14.

There are other ways to get involved as well, for those who want a
closer look at the best of Canadian theatre. In particular, the Evening
with Rick Mercer
<http://www.magneticnorthfestival.ca/pages/programming/mercer.html> is a
great opportunity to spend some quality time with Canada's favourite
satirist.

I hope you will grab this chance to see some great theatre, support our
local artists and students, and participate in what promises to be a
fantastic festival of live theatre.

Best regards,
Bill
