Dear Colleagues--

I am writing to invite you to a free poetry reading by UW English
alumnus George Elliott Clarke (BA 1984), renowned poet, 2002 Governor
General’s Award-winner (for Execution Poems), and author of numerous
plays, poetry collections, scholarly texts, and a novel, George and
Rue (2005).

In addition to being a poet, playwright and literary critic Clarke is
the E.J. Pratt Professor of Canadian Literature at the University of
Toronto. He taught English and Canadian Studies at Duke University
(1994-1999). During 1998-99 he was appointed the Visiting Seagrams
Chair in Canadian Studies at McGill University, then became professor
of English at the U. of T. in 1999, before being appointed E.J. Pratt
Professor in 2003.

The reading will begin at 7:00 pm in the Hagey Hall Theatre of the
Humanities on Friday, September 17th, and there will be a book
signing afterwards. Please come and join us in celebration of 50
years of English at the University of Waterloo.

Sincerely,

Fraser
