International Students and Student Success: Dr. Janette Ryan visit

Waterloo has one of Ontario's most diverse undergraduate student populations, with specific challenges as a result in terms of facilitating student success.  In Arts, the ELPE requirement, burgeoning 2 + 2 programs, and an increased emphasis on student success are just some of the initiatives that have underlined the need for increased awareness and understanding of the international student group.



Dr. Janette Ryan, a leading expert on the internationalized classroom, is visiting Waterloo for three days, March 5 - 7 to share her knowledge about international student success and to consult with those interested about the development of programs that can assist international and domestic students (bio attached).  In addition to a public lecture (poster attached), there will be opportunities for in-depth consultations for interested groups of 5 or more, which may be booked by contacting the Arts Undergraduate Office at ext. 33554 or wchesney at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:wchesney at uwaterloo.ca>.  (There are a total of 5 1½ hour slots available, for up to 40 people each.)  Time and numbers allowing, arrangements may be made to have Dr. Ryan come to your department or area.



Dr. Ryan is a Research Associate of the Contemporary China Studies Programme at the University of Oxford; Director of the Teaching International Students Project<http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/teaching-international-students> for the UK Higher Education Academy; and Visiting Professor at the Centre for Academic Practice and  Research in Internationalisation at Leeds Metropolitan University.
