Please join us for our exciting fall and winter events!

Salutations to University of Waterloo students, faculty, and researchers!

The Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation (WICI) is pleased to announce that it has an exciting fall 2012 and winter 2013 line-up of speakers and workshops. These events are free to all interested participants.

The purpose of these events is to facilitate dialogue between scholars across the University of Waterloo campus, and create the opportunity for collaborative, transdisciplinary research on both theoretical and applied complex systems problems.

Themes for this year's events include ecological change, decision-making in medical contexts, social learning, and leadership, among others. Our speakers bring with them a vast array of exciting experience and interesting complexity-based conversation.

Our speaker line up is as follows:

Fall 2012 Semester

1. Seminar with Dr. Madhur Anand, Associate Professor in Environmental Biology at the University of Guelph and Canada Research Chair in Global Ecological Change
Tuesday, November 6th, 2012, 2-4pm

Winter 2013 Semester

1. Dr. Dan Lizotte, Assistant Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo
Tuesday, January 8th, 2013, 2-4pm
Title: Data-driven support for sequential medical decision-making

2. Dr. Chris Bauch, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph
Tuesday, February 5th, 2013, 2-4pm
Title: How contact networks, social learning, and strategic interactions determine individual vaccinating choices

3. Dr. Marc Hurwitz, Assistant Professor in the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University and President of Flipskills Consulting
Tuesday, March 12th, 2013, 2-4pm
Title: Leadership: It's pretty simple... by itself

4. Data Visualization Workshop with Dr. Dawn Parker, Associate Professor in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo
