Dear colleagues,

I am very excited to announce the first screening of the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies Latin American Film Series  next Wednesday, January 16, at 7.15pm in EV3-3421. I hope you will join us to watch:

El estudiante (The student), a film by Santiago Mitre.
Filmed in 2011, Mitre’s directorial debut, is a small-budget, independent film that very quickly rose from relative obscurity to gain national and international critical acclaim and become a box-office hit. The film portrays the initiation into a life of politics of a young student in the context of the highly politicized environment of Latin American public universities. This is a story about ethics and politics that provides a fascinating insight into student life at one of Latin America’s largest and most prestigious university, the University of Buenos Aires, in Argentina (founded in 1821).

In Spanish with English subtitles. Admission if (of course) free of charge.

The film will be introduced by the Hon. Germán Domínguez, Deputy Consul of Argentina, Consulate General of Argentina in Toronto.
