Next week, the UW Department of Religious Studies will welcome representatives from the Ontario Human Rights Commission. The Commission is updating its policy on "creed," i.e., the protection of religious freedom and the promotion of religious diversity in Ontario. As part of the policy update, we have scheduled a number of events at the University of Waterloo. We hope that you will participate in the academic event (see highlighted item below) at 10 am on Wednesday.

The other events are community-oriented; the Commission would like to consult with members of local religious communities in order to assure that they have addressed their concerns.

Please feel free to participate. However, note, that the room is small and space is limited.

10-12 noon PAS 2438: RS student and faculty event: "What is Religion? Implications for protecting religious freedom in Ontario," Presenters: Shaheen Azmi, Director,  and Remi Warner,  Senior Policy Analyst, of the OHRC's Policy Education, Monitoring & Outreach office. Respondents: Doris Jakobsh (University of Waterloo) and David Seljak (St. Jerome's University). Q&A.

12:20-1:20 pm Conrad Grebel cafeteria: Meeting with Ed Janzen and Marlene Epp, Conrad Grebel University College on Old Order Mennonites and Amish communities. (By invitation only.)

2:45-3:50 pm: PAS 1053: Shaheen Azmi and Remi Warner will participate in RS 700: Religious Diversity in North America to continue the morning discussion.

7:00-9:00 pm: Meeting with community members i.e., representatives from local Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, new-religious-movement, and minority-Christian groups at St. Jerome's University. (By invitation only.)
