The Cecilia and the Late George Piller Graduate Research Award

Two awards valued at $4,000 each are presented annually to excellent full-time graduate students in the Faculty of Arts who conduct research on German language, culture, history, and/or society. Applicants are nominated by a faculty member of the Waterloo Centre for German Studies in February of each year and inform the student of the nomination. Students then submit a one-page research project proposal and CV by e-mail attachment to wcgs at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:wcgs at uwaterloo.ca> by February 27th. Awardees will receive the award at Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies’ award ceremony on March 31st.

This fund is made possible by a donation from Cecilia Piller-Bershl.

If you know a full-time graduate student who works on research in German
Studies as defined above, and if you think this student is doing excellent work, then please do two things:

(1) Send Lori Straus, the WCGS assistant, the student’s name and graduate program affiliation by February 23rd.

(2) Please inform the student of your nomination. The student must then send a one-page description of the research project and a CV to wcgs at uwaterloo.ca<mailto:wcgs at uwaterloo.ca> by February 27th. You can nominate more than one student.

The WCGS Executive Committee will adjudicate the applications based on the merit of the research proposal and its contribution to the mandate of the Centre, as well as the student’s record of graduate study and research.
