New chamber opera premiering in Kitchener

Andrew Ager has become well known as a composer and organist. He has written an opera based on Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” and his compositions have been performed by the Elmer Iseler Singers, Sinfonia Toronto, and the Penderecki Quartet. His work has been performed in Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Andrew Ager’s new chamber opera “Führerbunker" is receiving its premiere at the Registry Theatre in Kitchener. Based on the personal accounts of eyewitnesses, the opera recounts the final ten days of Adolf Hitler’s life spent in a bunker in central Berlin. This is thought to be the first opera depicting Hitler. The opera will be staged but in a style that emphasizes historical detail over emotional drama. The opera is in German (an English translation will be available) and will last approximately one hour.
