Dear all:

A reminder of some important upcoming events!

________________________________
Instructors in Arts! Share your ideas and innovations by participating in the upcoming University of Waterloo teaching conference, Opportunities and New Directions. The call for papers is due this coming Monday, 2 February 2015. The Faculty of Arts could be better represented in this annual event, so please consider contributing your expertise. All the info you need is here: https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-for-teaching-excellence/university-waterloo-teaching-and-learning-conference-ond-2015

Would you like to attend the above-mentioned Opportunities and New Directions conference? Your Faculty of Arts Teaching Fellows, Shannon Dea and James Skidmore, would be happy to pay your $25 registration fee. It would be wonderful to see Arts well represented in the conference audience. The registration deadline is 3 April 2015. To take advantage of this generous offer, you should be a member of the Faculty of Arts (student, staff, sessional instructor, or faculty member). To register go to https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-for-teaching-excellence/university-waterloo-teaching-and-learning-conference-ond-2015 and follow the links. In the box “My UW unit head is paying” simply enter Shannon or Skid.

Join Arts Teaching Fellow and Philosophy instructor Shannon Dea as she describes her recent use of 'à la carte' assessment in a lower division Philosophy/Women's Studies class. In consultation with Prof. Dea, each student developed an individual plan for how to earn their 'à la carte' grade component. Prof. Dea and some of her former students will discuss the five benefits and two challenges of à la carte assessment. More information can be found at https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-for-teaching-excellence/events/five-benefits-and-two-challenges-carte-assessment-cte741 – registration is required.
