Dear colleagues,

If you missed the packed colloquium last week, you have another chance this
afternoon to hear Jennifer Simpson and Vershawn Young of the Dept. of Drama
& Speech Communication talk about their new books.

· Jennifer Simpson’s *Longing for Justice: Higher Education and
Democracy's Agenda* argues that for higher education to serve democracy, it
must strengthen students’ abilities to critically analyze social issues,
recognize and challenge social inequities, and pursue justice.

· Vershawn Young co-edited the book *From Uncle Tom's Cabin to The
Help: Critical Perspective of White-Authored Narratives of Black Life*,
which boldly examines the racial appropriation of African-American life by
white authors.

TODAY in The Bookstore (South Campus Hall) at 4pm. More info
