Rarely performed and little known, the first play in Shakespeare's first tetralogy is more than a simple preface to the more famous, substantive pieces that follow it.  Hugely popular in its day and featuring memorable characters - brave Talbot, Joan of Arc - deemed worthy of mention in accounts by Shakespeare's contemporaries, Henry the Sixth, Part One is a play filled with raucous energy, incessant swordplay, political intrigue, and the first sparks that set off the bloody Wars of the Roses.
With this production faculty director, Jennifer Roberts-Smith, is exploring historical working practices to stage this 90-minute work adapted by post-doctoral fellow Toby Malone.  Aided by fight director, Daniel Levinson, and acting coach Paul Hopkins, the cast of 15 students are bringing this production to life in a loud and visceral manner.  With a barebones set, designed by Paul Stoesser (Toronto), and costumes designed by Sharon E. Secord, this performance will make you laugh and gasp and cheer as the cast takes you through 32 years of bloodied British history in a blink of an eye.

This show toured to the Festival of Early Drama in Toronto on June 7th (www.plsfest.ca<http://www.plsfest.ca>) and will be touring to the Three Ladies of London in Context Conference in Hamilton at McMaster University on June 24th (www.threeladiesoflondon.mcmaster.ca<http://www.threeladiesoflondon.mcmaster.ca>).
