Reminder - event this Thursday!

"Never Forget the Victims: Prosecuting Charles Taylor, President of Liberia, for War Crimes"
Thursday, March 22, 2018
7:00pm
CIGI Auditorium, 67 Erb Street West, Waterloo

David Crane, the Founding Prosecutor of the Special Court of Sierra Leonne, will deliver a free lecture about the establishment of the international criminal court that prosecuted the first sitting Head of State, Charles Taylor for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The way he carried out his duties, by ensuring that the voice of the victims was heard in how the case unfolded, had never been tried before by an international tribunal.

This lecture should be of interest to anyone interested in international humanitarian law, human rights, and how peace can be restored following an armed conflict in which war crimes and crimes against humanity have been committed.

While the focus of the lecture is on Sierra Leone, it may provide an example to the world community of the benefits of criminal prosecution in other situations of horrific war crimes.

The event is free, but registration is requested. https://never-forget-the-victims.eventbrite.ca
