THE IMPOSSIBLE BLUE ROSE (2013-2016) is a multidisciplinary video installation by Calgary-based artist Lisa Lipton. The fragmented narrative follows the artist's surrogate Frankie as they journey from the fictional town of Greysville criss-crossing North America before making it all the way to paradise: Hawaii. Augmented by props, furniture, and costumes from the nine chapters of the video, the installation evokes the desire to run away, reinvent oneself, and find true love. THE IMPOSSIBLE BLUE ROSE encapsulates the artist’s work in video, theatre, dance, poetry, drumming, and sculpture culminating in a hallucinatory journey of self-discovery.

Lisa Lipton’s THE IMPOSSIBLE BLUE ROSE is being presented in conjunction with her solo exhibition Chapter VI: Greysvillle also on display at Hamilton Artists Inc. until October 27. 


Lisa Lipton is a Maritime-born multidisciplinary visual artist and musician who received her MFA from the University of Windsor and BFA from NSCAD University. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, and was shortlisted for the 2015 Sobey Art Award. She is currently based in Calgary, Alberta.
