Next Tuesday, October 8, 2019 WCGS welcomes Dr. Silke Reineke of the Institute for German Language (IDS), Mannheim for her talk Corpora of spoken German: ‘Hidden treasures’ and their potential uses.
Dr. Reineke will lead the audience on a small virtual tour of the IDS’s archive to shed light on some of its ‘hidden treasures’ and their potential uses for cultural history and for teaching and learning German.
Presented in cooperation with the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies.

The Buried Raging Sermons of the Warsaw Ghetto Rabbi

Professor James Diamond, Chair of Jewish Studies at the University of Waterloo, will give a talk on a recovered manuscript of weekly sermons delivered in the Ghetto by a Hasidic rabbi desperately trying to preserve his faith in the face of unimaginable loss and pain. It is a rare testament to one human being’s struggle with the incomprehensible evil of the Holocaust.
