Do you know any students inspired to create social change?

The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement<https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-peace-advancement/> on campus is excited to be hosting the third annual University of Waterloo Map the System<https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-peace-advancement/student-engagement/map-system> competition. This competition is a great opportunity for students to dive deep into complex social and environmental problems they are passionate about, develop research skills, connect with a global network of systems thinkers, and become eligible for cash prizes! This competition is open to students from all faculties, and is available as a co-curricular or curricular opportunity.

The Centre is hosting a Map the System Student Webinar<https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-peace-advancement/events/map-system-student-webinar> next week, and we'd like to extend an invite to upper-year Arts students.

Here's an event description:

[cid:image002.jpg at 01D6B2AE.0BFD4690]The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement will be hosting a Map the System Student Webinar<https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-peace-advancement/events/map-system-student-webinar> on November 10 from 3-4 p.m. on Zoom.

Map the System<https://mapthesystem.web.ox.ac.uk/> is a one-of-a-kind systems thinking competition, run by the University of Oxford's Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship<https://www.sbs.ox.ac.uk/research/centres-and-initiatives/skoll-centre-social-entrepreneurship>, that encourages students to think deeply about social and environmental issues that matter to them. Rather than jumping to quick-fix solutions, Map the System allows students to research problem domains, better preparing them to tackle the modern world's complex challenges. The Centre for Peace Advancement is hosting the University of Waterloo's third annual competition in 2021.

At this webinar, students will get the chance to learn about the upcoming competition, see example submissions, listen to the insights of past winners, and see why they should participate in Map the System. Hear from and connect with University of Waterloo Map the System Campus Lead Thomas Fraser as he reflects on his experience in the competition, shares key dates and steps, and discusses resources available to students. Registration required. <https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-peace-advancement/map-system-student-webinar>

The CPA is on lands that are deeply connected to Indigenous peoples who have historically lived, and who currently live, in this territory. These groups include the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations, also known as the Haudensaunee people. This land includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.
