Dear Colleagues,

I hope this email finds you well.

Please consider encouraging your students to add the following PACS courses to their fall schedule.

PACS 101: Peace is Everybody's Business - This course explores ways in which individuals and groups from multiple sectors of society have contributed to peace by engaging in conflict constructively and advancing social justice. Attention will be given to the diversity of peacemaking approaches, and to interpersonal and intergroup as well as international applications
.
PACS 201: Roots of Conflict, Violence, and Peace - This examines influential theories about the sources and nature of conflict, violence, and peace. Contributions from the social sciences, as well as the humanities, will be explored, with attention to connections between interpersonal, intergroup, and international levels of analysis.

PACS 301: PACS Special Topic Course: Environmental Justice and Racism in Canada and Beyond - This course examines how the environment intersects with issues of race, class, gender, and health to contribute to conflict in Canada and beyond. The concepts of peace, environmental justice, and social determinants of health are examined, and the significance of race and racism is central to the course. Using film and interdisciplinary scholarship, this course will look at the ways in which we can begin to see issues of environmental injustice as opportunities for creating more resilient communities and for shifting to greater peace and justice in the world. Seminars will include group discussions, multimedia presentations, and interactive exercises to provide foundational information while encouraging active participation in the educational process.

I have attached course promotional posters you may find useful to share with potential students.

Thank you greatly!

“Ask any Mexican, any Puerto Rican, any Black man, any poor person - ask the wretched how they fare in the halls of justice, and then you will know, not whether or not the country is just, but whether or not it has any love for justice or any concept of it. It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have." - James A. Baldwin
