Please join us on Monday, October 23 for a special lecture by UNESCO Chair and University of Waterloo Honorary Doctorate recipient Alison Phipps on Hospitality: Refugee Integration through Languages, Spirituality, and Arts.
Dr. Alison Phipps takes an anthropological approach to the work of memory and reconciliation in communities where conflict and trauma have left, passed through, arrived and also survived. Her lecture focuses on theological and spiritual dimensions of integration and hospitality work. Phipps, the UNESCO Chair in Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts at the University of Glasgow, will draw on her many years of working with the arts in a variety of international settings to explore how arts-based methods enable intercultural dialogue, challenge yet also facilitate the amelioration of xenophobia, and are a vital element in the work of integrating refugees and communities.
WHEN: October 23, 7:00 PM
WHERE: CIGI Auditorium, Balsillie School of International Affairs (67 Erb St West)
DETAILS and REGISTER: Visit the event page<https://uwaterloo.ca/centre-for-german-studies/events/hospitality-refugee-integration-through-languages>
“The scale of the refugee crisis worldwide requires innovative responses and radical action. I hope to make a tangible contribution through my role as UNESCO Chair and deliver projects which make a real difference to the lives of refugees and their communities.” - Alison Phipps
