The University of Toronto Press today published Establishing Our Boundaries: English-Canadian Theatre Criticism, edited by Anton Wagner.
The collection of essays written by 17 members of the ACTR is the first cultural history of Canada as seen through its theatre and theatre criticism over two centuries.
The first copies of the 416 page book were rushed to members of the ACTR criticism panel (Don Rubin, Patrick O'Neill, Malcolm Page, Don Perkins and Anton Wagner) who will discuss theatre criticism, past and present, at the ACTR conference at Bishop's University June 2.
The official launch of Establishing Our Boundaries will also take place at the ACTR conference, on June 4, together with the launch of the play anthology Staging the North, edited by Sherrill Grace, Eve D'Aeth and Lisa Chalykoff, published by Playwrights Canada Press.
Two copies of Establishing Our Boundaries were won by this year's winners of the Nathan Cohen Award for Excellence in Theatre Criticism: Robert Cushman (long review category, National Post) and Kate Taylor (short review category, Globe and Mail).
The contributors and contents of the book are as follows:
