            Anglophone Drama at the Dawn of a New Millennium



  An international conference organized by the Department of English of
                   the Université libre de Bruxelles.

                        Brussels, 16-19 May 2001

This three-day conference will seek to explore the new developments that
characterize Anglophone drama at the dawn of the 21st century, at a time
when the label “English” is no longer perceived only as British and
American but also comprises the former colonies of the British Empire.
Theatre will be analyzed in its capacity to translate the many-faceted
societal and aesthetic changes that mark the beginning of the new
millennium: how does Anglophone drama reinscribe the complexities of
postmodernism and cultural pluralism in a age of transition? The
conference will also feature numerous paper sessions on English,
American and postcolonial drama.

Christopher Balme (University of Mainz); Judith E. Barlow (State
University of New York at Albany); C.W.E. Bigsby (University of East
Anglia); Geoff Davis (Aachen University of Technology); Harry Elam
(Stanford University); Helen Gilbert (University of Queensland); Ric
Knowles (University of Guelph); Drew Hayden Taylor (playwright, Canada);
Timberlake Wertenbaker (playwright, United Kingdom).
