Acting Workshop with visiting Indian artist

DANCING MIND-QUIET BODY -- a four-day workshop of exercises and improvisations to bring the actor's body, mind, and soul together, by visiting actor/director Ashwatthama JD of Rajasthan, India, currently performing in "A Drop of Blood" at Artword Theatre. DATE: June 17-20, 2003
TIME: 7-10pm
PLACE: St. Matthew's United Church, 729 St. Clair Ave. W. (south side of St. Clair, half a block west of Christie St.--There is a streetcar stop on St. Clair at Christie St.)
FEES: $150 or $40/session CAEA $125 or $25/session
Please note: Single sessions must begin with the first meeting and be consecutive.
There is the possibility of creating a play or further work June 24-28 for those participants who are interested.
JD is an actor and director from Ajmere, Rahasthan. He is a graduate of the National School of Drama in New Delhi whose theatrical career began in high school as part of the late Safdar Hashmi's famous street theatre 'Jan Natya Manch'. Recently he has founded Hawari Theatre and is developing a studio on ten acres of land near Pushkar, Rajasthan. In the last couple years, he has conducted production-oriented theatre workshops with a cross-section of society: prisoners, sex workers, children of sex workers, slum dwellers, and college as well as grade-school students. He has toured his "Ek Qatra Khoon" [a drop of blood] for the past two years throughout northern India to great acclaim, and opened the 2003 International Fadjr Theatre Festival in Tehran, Iran.
