Nos complace anunciar el lanzamiento del cuarto número de e-misférica,
la revista electrónica del Instituto Hemisférico, e-misférica:

"Performance y ley," co-editado por Fernando J. Rosenberg y Jill Lane.

Este número ilustra las múltiples formas en que la performance
atiende, disputa o sustenta el discurso de la ley en las Américas.

Los ensayos de Alicia Schmidt Camacho, Mirta Antonelli, Gustavo
Buntix, Esteban Rodríguez y Sarah Kozinn evidencian el fértil
intercambio entre los estudios de performance y los estudios críticos
de la ley. Su trabajo ilumina una gran variedad de temas, desde la
lucha por la ciudadanía, los derechos y la práctica de la ley en
economías políticas inestables, hasta las formas en que la ley produce
sistemas de exclusión en términos de clase, raza y género. Dos mesas
redondas reúnen reflexiones y ensayos más cortos: uno sobre género,
teatro y encarcelación; y otro sobre medios y justicia popular. La
sección de opinión presenta el trabajo de dos profesores de derecho,
Paul Kahn y Gustavo Cosacov, cuyo trabajo explora la necesaria
performatividad de la ley.

Este número cuenta con la presentación de cinco artistas: El Reverendo
Billy de Nueva York, EEUU, sobre la desobediencia civil en espacios
comerciales; Mujeres Creando, de La Paz, Bolivia, cuyas acciones
cuestionan la burocracia de las instituciones legales; el Grupo de
Arte Callejero, de Buenos Aires, Argentina, con su proyecto para
recuperar la memoria nacional de la colonización y el genocidio;
Urbomaquia, de Córdoba, Argentina, quienes discuten sus instalaciones
artísticas en y acerca del espacio público; y Coco Fusco, desde Nueva
York, EEUU, quien nos presenta sus videos y performances sobre el
nuevo rol de las mujeres en la "guerra contra el terrorismo" de los
Estados Unidos.

Esta edición se completa con la exposición que presenta el trabajo de
dos artistas importantes: la humorista Diana Raznovich, con su "Manual
de instrucciones para mujeres maltratadas," en la sección de Humor; y
el fotógrafo Julio Pantoja, con su informe sobre el rol de la
fotografía en la conmemoración del decimotercero aniversario del golpe
de estado en Argentina, en la sección de Activismo, de la que también
participan Ricardo Domínguez y Andréa Maciel Garcia.

We are delighted to announce the launching of the fourth edition of
the Hemispheric Institute's e-journal, e-misférica:

"Performance and the Law," guest-edited by Fernando J. Rosenberg and Jill 
Lane.

This exciting issue illustrates the myriad ways in which performance
engages, contests, or maintains the discourse of law in the Americas.

Scholarly essays by Alicia Schmidt Camacho, Mirta Antonelli, Gustavo
Buntinx, Esteban Rodríguez and Sarah Kozinn make evident the
generative conversations between studies of performance and critical
studies of the law. Their work illuminates a range of issues, from the
struggle for citizenship, rights, and the practice of law in unstable
political economies, to the ways in which the rule of law produces
regimes of exclusion in terms of class, race, and gender. Two
roundtables gather the reflections and shorter essays: one on gender,
theatre, and incarceration; and one on media and popular justice. The
op-ed section features the work of two legal scholars, Paul Kahn and
Gustavo Cosacov, engaged in thinking about law's necessary
performativity.

This issue features five artist presentations: Reverend Billy from New
York City, U.S.A., focused on civil disobedience in commercial space;
Mujeres Creando from La Paz, Bolivia, whose action questions the
bureaucracy of legal institutions; Grupo de Arte Callejero, from
Buenos Aires, Argentina, who share their project to reclaim national
memories of colonization and genocide; Urbomaquia, from Cordoba,
Argentina, who discuss their artistic installations in and about
public space; and Coco Fusco, based in New York City, U.S.A., who
shares her performance and video investigations of the new role of
women in the U.S. "war on terror."

These materials are complemented by the work of two prominent artists:
cartoonist Diana Raznovich's "Manual de instrucciones para mujeres
maltratadas," featured in our Humor section; and photographer Julio
Pantoja's report on the role of photography in the commemoration of
the 30-year anniversary of the Argentinean coup d'état, that you can
find in the Activism section.
