The Department of Drama at Queen's University requests applications
from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching one or more
of the following courses in the 2006-07 academic session.
DRAM 216 (0.5 course load): Fall Term: Musical Theatre, An
examination of the major trends in musical theatre production and
theory since the 19th century, exploring the work of important
composers and lyricists and the structure of musical theatre works,
Enrolment @ 45 at second year level and up
DRAM237 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Elementary Acting
1(The Actor's Instrument) Fundamental skills and techniques of
acting, Enrolment @24, acting lab course at second year level,
introductory skills
DRAM238 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Elementary Acting 2
(Theories and Styles), A practical introduction to acting styles,
Enrolment @24, acting lab course at second year level, introductory
skill level
DRAM239 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Special Topics in
Performance 1, A practical introduction to special performance areas
such as stage combat or collective creation, topics will vary,
Enrolment @24, acting lab course at second year level, introductory skills
DRAM241 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Design and Theatre,
An examination of design elements in theatrical production, exploring
the work of design practitioners and theorists and studying the
design process, Enrolment @24, lecture/practical at the second year level
DRAM305 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Canadian Theatre and
Drama, A lecture/seminar on theatre in Canada from its earliest
stages to now, Enrolment @30, introduction to the area at a third year level
DRAM306 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Canadian Drama, A
lecture/seminar on theatre in Canada, concentrating on works from the 1960s.
DRAM311 (0.5 course load): Fall Term: Introduction to Theatre for
Young People: The history and theory of theatre conceived for
audiences of young people, Enrolment @ 40, lecture course at the
third year level
DRAM314 (0.5 course load): Winter Term: Young Peoples' Theatre
Practicum: The development and performance of theatre conceived for
audiences of young people, Enrolment at 24, lab at the third year level
DRAM323 (0.5 course load): Winter Term: Practical Concerns in
Directing, A lecture/demonstration course focusing on the director's
pre-production work and rehearsal strategies, Enrolment @30,
introduction to the area at a third year level
DRAM339 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Special Topics in
Performance 2, An advanced exploration of selected performance
techniques and approaches, topics will vary, Enrolment @24, lab
course at third year level
DRAM401 (0.5 course load): Fall or Winter Term: Theories of Theatre
II, Seminar in 20th century theories of drama and performance,
including various school and modes of thought, Enrolment @20, senior students
DRAM422 (0.5 course load): Fall Term or Winter Term: Directing
Practicum 1, Students' directing of short scenes will be the basis of
practical exploration of directorial methods, Enrolment @16, senior students
DRAM423 (0.5 course load): Winter Term: Directing Practicum 2,
Advanced practical lab in directing techniques concentrating on
longer scenes, Enrolment @16, senior students
DRAM431 (0.5 course load): Fall Term or Winter Term: Advanced Acting,
Performance 1, Advanced acting work in lab course focusing on
Shakespeare, Enrolment @18, senior students
DRAM439 (0.5 course load): Fall Term: Special Topics in Performance,
Advanced acting work in lab course focusing on Shakespeare, Enrolment
@18, senior students

All the above courses will be taught on campus. Fall term begins
September 1, 2006 and ends December 31, 2006; Winter term begins on
January 1, 2007 and concludes on April 30, 2007; Fall/Winter Session
classes begin September 1, 2006 and end April 30, 2007.
Successful candidates will typically have a graduate degree or
advanced standing in the profession. They will have expertise in the
field or fields relevant to the course, appropriate teaching
experience, and strong teaching skills.
A candidate appointed to teach a load of 1.5 courses or less may be
eligible for appointment to a Sessional Adjunct position, as defined
by the Collective Agreement for Sessional Adjuncts. A candidate
appointed to teach a load of 2.0 courses or more may be considered
for appointment to a Term Adjunct position as defined by the
Collective Agreement for Faculty, Librarians and Archivists between
QUFA and Queen's University. Details of the relevant agreements can
be found at www.queensu.ca/qufa. A suitably qualified candidate who
is a graduate student at Queen's during the period of their
employment as an instructor is eligible for appointment as a Teaching Fellow.
