«Theater and cinema : On representation»*
Edited by Sylvain Duguay
Nouvelles « vues » sur le cinéma québécois (www.cinema-quebecois.net)
announces the online publication of its eighth issue,
«Theater and cinema: On representation».
Studies on theatrical and cinematic conventions develop in tandem as they
relate to performance, hybridity and the fragmentation of the body. For its
eighth issue, *Nouvelles « vues » sur le cinéma québécois* brings together a
collection of essays that explore the complex ties between theater and
cinema. Sylvie Bissonnette applies the idea of theatricality "engagée" to
examine cinematic adaptations of theatrical works in Quebec, while Shannon
Brownlee uses the concept of theatricality to define the space of fantasy in
Les feluettes and Lilies. André Loiselle also explores theatricality, this
time in relation to Satanist horror films of Quebec. Thierry Giaccardi
contemplates new representations of the body, while Beth Marquis explores
various levels of play in documentary film. Sylvain Duguay proposes a
reversed glance in analyzing recent uses of film on stage, specifically in a
theatrical homage to Norman McLaren.
