The Department of English and Drama at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the field of Western Twentieth-Century Theatre History. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2016.
We will seriously consider applicants with research and teaching expertise in all areas of the field of Western Theatre History of the Twentieth Century. Specializations of particular interest to us include -- but are not limited to -- the history of non-North American theatre cultures; theories and histories of acting; and/or the theory and history of dramaturgy. An interest in the intersections of theoretical or historical work and contemporary theatre practice would also be of value.
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in a related field and have at least two years of experience as a full-time faculty member; advanced Assistant Professors or early-career Associate Professors will be considered for this position. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching through documented teaching accomplishments, letters of reference, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Candidates also must have an established record of scholarly accomplishment including significant publications in leading academic journals and/or with leading academic presses, preferably including a monograph; they will provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated in presentations at significant conferences, fellowships or other research awards, and strong endorsements by referees. Experience in program administration will be an advantage.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will also become a full member of the graduate faculty of the Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies, which consists of colleagues from the University’s three campuses (UTM, U of T Scarborough, and U of T St. George). Duties will consist of research; the supervision of PhD dissertations; and teaching undergraduate courses at the Mississauga campus and graduate classes at the St. George campus. The successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in the administration of our Theatre and Drama programs in future years. The department is committed to excellence in both research and teaching.
