TheDepartment of Theatre in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance

Contractually Limited Appointmentat the rank of *Sessional* *Assistant
Professor in Performance Creation* (professorial
stream)**tocommence*August 15, 2019 and conclude June 14,
2020.*Thesuccessfulcandidatewillbeexpectedtoteach studio and
seminar/lecture courses at theundergraduate//(and possibly graduate)
level with an emphasis on performance creation, including devised
theatre. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
A Ph.D. (or near completion) or Ph.D. equivalent (typically an MFA with
a substantial record of recent professional experience in devised
theatre/performance creation) is required. Candidates must show
excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, scholarly research and
publication and service. The successful candidate is
alsoexpectedtoprovideevidenceofservicecontributions or potential to
contribute to serviceinadministrativeandcommitteework.
Applicants should have an ongoing program of research and specialize in
teaching in teaching the studio-based areas of devised theatre and
performance creation, with additional teachable strengths in movement
for the stage, improvisation, and/or clown seen as assets.Previous
experience teaching lecture classes in theatre and performance history
and/or contemporary Canadian performance is strongly preferred.
The successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the
Faculty of Graduate Studies. The position may involve graduate teaching
as well as undergraduate teaching. Pedagogical innovation in high
priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced
learning is preferred.
