Are you a theatre maker, artist, or academic in Canada
interested in sharing your work and being in dialogue
with others in your community?
We kindly invite you to participate with members of the Canadian Association for Theatre Research (CATR) and the Société québecoise d’études théâtrales (SQET) for their annual joint and bilingual conference. Both associations are comprised of theatre
artists, educators, and practitioners.

The conference invites members to share their research and artistic work in a variety of presentations, performances, and larger discussions in both French and English.

Event Location and Date:
This year’s gathering will be from May 24th to 28th, 2020 in Montréal, Québec at the Université du Québec à Montréal and Concordia University.

Theme of the conference:
This year the conference’s theme is “Partition/Ensemble.” Partition in French means a system that brings together musical notes, whereas in English, “partition” can also refer to separation and dividing of an object. The word ensemble in both French and English means “together” and also refers to a “set” or “unity” of things that go together. During this year’s conference we will unpack these notions of “partition” and “ensemble” in the
performing arts in all of their aesthetic and political senses.

We invite artists and academics to consider how this theme relates to dramatic texts, creative processes, scores, language, movement, creating political dialogue, postcolonialism, ruptures caused by Canadian settler-colonialism with Indigenous territories, and our positions as theatre makers, educators, and researchers.

We Welcome All:
We invite you to apply to come join us for the event, whether as a speaker or performer. Please know we also welcome work that does not necessarily explore this year’s theme.

How to apply:
There are two ways to apply to participate in this conference:
1. Curated events (such as roundtables, planned panels, seminars). Please write a 300-word proposal for your intended curated event along with a 300-word call for people to apply to it. Remember to include the title of your curated event and a brief description. For the call for people to apply please remember to include the title of the curated event, its focus, and a list of potential topics to spark some inspiration/perspective. This is due November 4.

2. Open paper and artist call (paper presentation, short performances). Please know there will further information at the end of the year.

dialoguer avec d’autres membres dans votre communauté ?

Nous vous invitons à participer, avec les membres de l’Association canadienne pour la recherche théâtrale (ACTR) et de la Société québécoise d’études théâtrales (SQET), à leur conférence conjointe et bilingue. Les deux associations comprennent des spécialistes du théâtre, des éducateur·rice·s, des étudiant·e·s et des praticien·ne·s.

Nous invitons les membres à partager leurs recherches et leurs travaux artistiques dans divers formats, en français et en anglais.

Lieu et date de l’événement
Cette année, l’événement aura lieu du 25 au 28 mai 2020 à Montréal (Québec), à

Thème du colloque
Cette année, le thème du colloque est Partition/Ensemble. Par « partition », nous entendons, en français, un système qui regroupe des notes de musique ; en anglais, cela peut également désigner la séparation et la division d’un objet. Le mot « ensemble » a le même sens en français et en anglais, et signifie une unité de choses. Lors du colloque, nous allons interroger ces notions de « partition » et d’« ensemble » pour les arts de la scène dans leurs sens esthétique et politique.

Nous invitons artistes et universitaires à réfléchir aux liens entre textes dramatiques, processus créatifs, partitions, langage, mouvement, dialogue politique, postcolonialisme, ruptures causées par le colonialisme canadien avec les territoires autochtones, et nos positions en tant que créateur·rice·s, éducateur·rice·s et chercheur·se·s dans le milieu du théâtre.

Nous accueillerons
Nous vous invitons à poser votre candidature pour vous joindre à nous, autant comme que conférencier·ère que responsable d’un atelier ou d’un groupe de travail. Les travaux n’explorant pas nécessairement le thème du colloque sont également les bienvenus.

Comment postuler
Il existe deux façons de postuler pour participer à ce colloque :

1. Activités organisées (tables rondes, panels, séminaires, etc.). Si vous êtes intéressé·e, voici plus d’information : Vous devez produire une proposition de 300 mots décrivant l’activité que vous souhaitez organiser, ainsi qu’un appel de 300 mots pour que les personnes puissent postuler. N’oubliez pas d’inclure le titre de votre activité et une brève description. Pour l’appel à candidatures, il faut fournir le titre de l’activité organisée, ses objectifs et une liste de sujets potentiels susceptibles d’inspirer la réflexion. Date limite : 4 novembre.

2. Communications ouvertes et appel aux artistes (présentations papier, courtes performances, etc.). Plus d'informations sera  disponible d’ici la fin de l’année.
