The S Word is delighted to announce that the keynote speaker at our
November symposium, *Stanislavsky - Director, Trainer, Pedagogue*in
Athens, Greece will be *Marie-Christine Autant-Mathieu*, Director of
Research at The National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), and
member of Centre Eur’ORBEM (CNRS/ Sorbonne Université), Paris.
A distinguished theatre historian and specialist in Russian and Soviet
theatre, her many publications include: /The Stanislavsky System,
Genesis, History, interpretations of an actor’s training/(EOE, 2022),
/The Routledge Companion to Michael Chekhov/, edited with Yana Meerzon
(Routledge, 2015), /Soviet Theatre after Stalin/ (I.E.S., 2011) and
/Stanislavski. The Line of physical actions/ (L’Entretemps, 2007).
The topic of the keynote will be *Stanislavsky and Voice Training*;
“Quite often, when one evokes the main contributions of the Stanislavsky
System, the "method of physical actions" immediately comes to mind.
Voice training remains a little-explored area and is often seen as the
last step of Stanislavsky's work in his opera-dramatic studio. The aim
of my paper is to show, on the contrary, that voice training was an
early preoccupation for Stanislavsky, who places his search for a
natural voice in the wake of a Russian tradition born at the dawn of the
19th century.”
The deadline for submitting proposals for papers, workshops and panel
presentations for this event has been *extended*. Proposals of not more
than 300 words should be accompanied by a brief biography, and emailed
to Dr Michaela Antoniou (michanton at theatre.uoa.gr
<mailto:michanton at theatre.uoa.gr>) to arrive no later than the *30th
June 2023*.
Online booking/registration for this event will be available in July 2023.
