September 4th webinar: how to effectively engage the media to support your advocacy activities
The <http://survivornet.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=318d4e052fdd9593317146113&id=237b5b7238&e=2e211ff547> Canadian Cancer Survivor Network (CCSN) is offering a series of webinars designed to give you information to build your knowledge about important issues facing patients and caregivers.
Our next webinar is entitled “How to effectively engage the media to support your advocacy activities”. The webinar will be hosted by Vicki Franklin of Hill & Knowlton Strategies. The webinar will last approximately 1 hour, including 15 minutes for questions after the webinar. After participating in this webinar, attendees will:
* Understand how to effectively interest the media to support your group's activities, with several examples from recent cancer news stories.
* Learn a variety of tactics to engage the media.
* Be shown a recent example of how media relations can support advocacy activities.
HOW TO REGISTER
The webinar is being held on Thursday September 4, 2014 at 1PM EST. To participate, you will need to register by clicking the registration button below and filling out the form. CCSN will then email you the link for participating in the webinar and login instructions.
The CCSN advocacy series is of interest to patients, survivors, family, friends, caregivers, and any member of the community interested in the best possible care and follow-up for cancer patients and survivors. The impact of volunteering and taking positive action to effect change are important elements in the transition to post-treatment life.

Submit your artwork to the Lilly Oncology on Canvas competition!
Some see art. Others see hope. What do you see?
The Lilly Oncology On Canvas Canada art competition is open to residents of Canada who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence as of September 30, 2014. Entrants must select the category that best describes their cancer journey - person diagnosed with cancer; family member, friend or caregiver; and healthcare professional – and the type of original artwork they are submitting: painting (acrylic, watercolor, oil, pastel), photography, or mixed media (a combination of two or more media). Artwork must be accompanied by a narrative of 125 words or less.

Winners in 15 categories will be chosen by an independent panel of judges selected by CAPO and CCSN.

CCSN currently has three advisory councils, each focused on different types of cancer: prostate cancer, breast cancer, as well as mesothelioma. These councils meet by teleconference and confer regularly by email to improve diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. Cancer patients, survivors and family members are all invited to join.
