Hi Tom & Glen

Hope you're recovering well Tom. I had mine removed 9 weeks ago (robotic laparoscopic). It's advisable to hold off on Kegels until after they remove your tube. The exercise has no value during that time and only contributes to discomfort and spasms. And I know all about how funky it feels to have a bowel movement with that tubing inside you. If you experience bleeding from your penis while having a bowel movement (usually from straining) don't worry. It's a common occurrence and not a sign of damage to your urethra. I got spooked the first time I saw drops of blood after slight straining to push through a bowel movement. It's ok.

I booked a pelvic floor physiotherapist for the week after my catheter was pulled out. It's been remarkably helpful to get physio and to be taught how to maximize the effects of proper kegel exercises.

Hope that info helps. Drop me a line with any questions or concerns you have as you recover.

Kind regards - Tom
