Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a good weekend. Just another information email from me related to your undergrad courses, this time about the procedures to follow if you get an override request from a student, and/or if your student needs a special enrollment permission code to add your course to Quest for Winter 2027 or beyond:

Procedure for a student course override request, for a course you're teaching:

  1.
If you get an override request from a student to join a course you're teaching in Winter 2027 or a future term, you first need to decide if you wish to grant this student request or not. Students will request course overrides often if course enrollment is already full (but they still want to take your course) or if they do not meet the course's pre-requisites.
  2.
If you are declining the student's request, then please just let the student know.
  3.
If you are looking to accept the student's request, then please first email your area's undergraduate advisor (see email contact details below) with the course and student information.
  4.
For course overrides, your area's undergraduate advisor will make the final decision of whether the override can be granted or not. Your area's undergraduate advisor will make every possible effort to accommodate your and the student's request, but know that this is sometimes not possible if there is already a waiting list for your course, if there is not enough available space in the room where your course will be taught, if the student is already enrolled in the maximum number of courses they can take in a term, if there are ongoing academic issues with the specific student, etc. Your area's undergraduate advisor will let you and the student know of the outcome as soon as they can, and send the student the permission code to enroll in your course if the request is granted.

Procedure to enroll a student in a one-on-one reading/essay/research course with you:

  1.
Many of your area's have reading, essay or research courses a student can request to take with you one-on-one. If you receive such a request from a student, then you first need to decide if you wish to grant this student request or not.
  2.
If you are declining the student's request, then please just let the student know.
  3.
If you are looking to accept the student's request, then please first email your area's undergraduate advisor (see email contact details below) with the course and student information. If all looks good on the student's academic file, then your area's undergraduate advisor will email you and the student the permission code for enrollment as soon as possible.
  4.
However, if the student in question is already enrolled in the maximum number of courses they can take in a term, then your area's undergraduate advisor will not be able to enroll the student in the course, and will inform you and the student of this as soon as they can (in which case, you can recommend to the student they wait for a future term to take the course with you).
