CALL FOR PAPERS

Celebrating Canadian Plays Festival and Conference
17 - 20 October 2002

As a culmination of its 50th anniversary celebrations in its 2002
season,
The Stratford Festival, is collaborating with several universities and
the Playwrights Union of Canada to host a festival and conference on
Canadian
Plays.  The festival component will include panel discussions and
readings by many of the country's leading actors, directors, dramaturgs,
and, of
course, playwrights, including Judith Thompson, Djanet Sears, Timothy
Findlay, Rahul Varma, Sky Gilbert, Andrew Moodie, Joan McLeod, Anne
Marie
MacDonald.

The conference component will feature invited papers by a group of
scholars
from Australia, England, the U.S.A., and Canada, as well as papers
selected
from this open call.

Complete papers or abstracts of about 250 words are invited by March 28,
2002, on Canadian plays and playwrights, and in particular on the
following
topics: New Plays and New Play Development; Translation and Adaptation;
The Politics and Business of Playwrighting; and Politics, Plays, and
Political Plays..
