Noon Hour Concert this Wednesday

Dear University of Waterloo Faculty and Staff,

 

This is your friendly reminder that the first Noon Hour Concert in our
winter 2008 series takes place this Wednesday, January 16 at 12:30pm in the
Conrad Grebel University College Chapel.  As always, admission is free for
these concerts, and all are invited to attend.  This week’s program is
entitled Berners and Böhme: Music for Trumpet and Piano/Piano Four Hands and
features Guy Few (trumpet/piano/voice) and Stephanie Mara (piano).  The
program repertoire and artist biographies can be found below.

Artist Biographies

Guy Few is a gold medal graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and holds a
Fellowship Diploma from Trinity College, London, England.  He has appeared
as a soloist with many Canadian and US orchestras including The Toronto
Symphony, The Vancouver Symphony, The Quebec Symphony, The Winnipeg
Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, and The Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra.  As a
chamber musician, Guy performs and records on a regular basis with Bellows
and Brass, Nadina Mackie Jackson, and Stephanie Mara.  He has been invited
as a soloist, principal, and recitalist, to many festivals including The
Festival of the Sound, Scotiafest, The Ottawa Chamber Festival, Takefu
International Music Festival, Tanglewood, and The Oregon Bach Festival.  As
a clinician and  in-residence teacher Guy has given master classes for many
organizations and universities including Takefu International Music
Festival, University of Toronto, University of Saskatchewan, Memorial
University, Montreal Conservatory, The Banff Centre for the Arts, Sonoma
State University and the State University of New York at Fredonia.  Guy has
appeared on CBC-TV, CTV, Bravo, and European television broadcasts and is
heard regularly on CBC Radio and NPR.  His discography includes recordings
for Arsis Classics, Musica Viva, CBC SM5000, MSR Classics, Naxos, and the
Hänssler Classics labels.  June 2008 will mark the release of Romanza, with
Nadina Mackie Jackson and The Toronto Chamber Orchestra, Nicholas McGegan

Canadian pianist, Stephanie Mara, received an Associate Diploma in Piano
Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor Degree in
Piano Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University, where she studied with
Garth Beckett.  She is a collaborative pianist and coach for Wilfrid Laurier
University where she works with performance majors in brass, bassoon, and
cello, and has assisted in master classes with Alain Trudel, Dennis Najoom
and James Campbell.  Stephanie has performed in recital and gala
presentations with Canadian soloists James Campbell, Alistair Kay and Jasper
Wood.  She performs on a regular basis with Canadian
trumpeter/pianist/singer Guy Few in Canada and the United States.  Festival
and series appearances include the Elora Festival, the Festival of the
Sound, the Ottawa Chamber Festival, Barrie Colours of Music, and Quad City
Arts (USA).  Stephanie’s broadcast credits encompass Bravo, CBC radio and
NPR.
