About the PJSA Conference:

The Peace and Justice Studies Association (PJSA) is a non-profit organization formed in 2001. It is a professional association for scholars in the field of peace and conflict resolution studies. It is also the North American affiliate of the International Peace Research Association.

PJSA holds an annual conference for academics, activists, and practitioners. The PJSA 2013 Conference is co-hosted by Global Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) and Peace and Conflict Studies from Conrad Grebel University College (Grebel). The conference starts on Thursday, Oct. 17th at 8:00 pm, ends on Saturday, Oct. 19th at 7:00pm, and takes place mainly at WLU. A special presentation of Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem" will follow the conference at the Centre in the Square, at 7:30 pm on Oct. 19.

A student conference also runs alongside the main academic conference this year, and will cover a wide range of themes and topics: disarmament, global health, international development, innovation, human rights, restorative justice, youth environmental and peace activism, Aboriginal affairs, conflicts, etc. A portion of this student conference will take place at Conrad Grebel University College.

The academic conference is mainly directed towards academics and graduate students, while the student conference is directed towards undergraduate and senior high school students.

The Student Conference is a three-day conference with a dynamic and exciting program:

Jody Williams (Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, International Campaign to Ban Landmines),
Sylvia McAdam (Co-founder of Idle No More),
James Orbinski (former President of Doctors Without Borders) ,
Rhoda Howard-Hassmann (Canada Research Chair in International Human Rights at Wilfrid Laurier University),
George Roter (Co-founder and CEO of Engineers Without Borders),
Brigette DePape (Youth Environmental and Peace Activist),
Emmanuel Jal (Former child solider; Hip-hop Artist and Peace Activist),
Shannon Moroney (Author and Restorative Justice Advocate)



*         Admission to hip-hop artist Emmanuel Jal's concert

*         Two complementary meals

*         Transportation between WLU and Grebel

*         Breakout sessions and workshops led by Engineers Without Borders (UW), the Diversity and Equity Office (WLU), the Aboriginal Student Centre (WLU) and more

*         Networking opportunities


There is a $60 registration fee for the Student Conference, which covers all of the above. There are three steps to the registration process for the PJSA Student Conference.

Step 2: Pay your $60.00 conference fee in the main office at Conrad Grebel University College, the Concourse at Wilfrid Laurier University or by mailing a cheque. Students must PAY in advance by October 4th to reserve their spots.
If paying by cheque: Make cheques payable to Wilfrid Laurier University, with "PJSA 2013 Student Conference Registration" in the cheque's memo line, and send to the following address:

Step 3: On the first day of the conference, register at the Concourse (Wilfrid Laurier University) and you'll receive your Conference Package and Wristband.
