*Stanislavsky and Directing:Theory, Practice, Influence*
* /An International Conference/*
*/ Keynote Speaker:/** Charles Marowitz*
The University of Toronto=s Graduate Centre for Study of Drama in
collaboration with Acadia University=s Theatre Studies Program is
pleased to present, *AStanislavsky and Directing: Theory, Practice,
Influence,**@* *January 20-21, 2006, *the first gathering in Canada
devoted to exploring the ideas and influences of Constantin Stanislavsky
on the art of directing.
An international assembly of artists and scholars from theatre and
related disciplines will examine a wide range of issues and
perspectives, providing occasion for formal and informal dialogue.
*Charles Marowitz*, acclaimed director, teacher, playwright and critic
will deliver the keynote address.
Of special interest is a hands-on workshop for directors, AThe Method
Director,@ conducted by *Gene Lasko* of the New School University, New
York and longtime member of the Actors Studio, and an illustrated talk,
AStanislavsky and Indigenous Performance, by *Marrie Mumford*, of
Métis/Chippewa-Cree ancestry, who will share her journey with the work
of Stanislavsky through her teachers Morris Carnovsky, Sonia Moore,
Herbert Bergoff and Irma Landry.
Conveners John Astington and Anna Migliarisi are delighted with the
array of activities and range of presentations packed into a mere two
days. AWe expect lively discussion on many aspects of Stanislavsky=s
evolving directorial theories and practice. The international
participation will add an important dimension; we all benefit from
hearing the views of others who may bring a fresh perspective to the topic.@
This conference has been made possible with the generous support of the
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada; the English
Department of Acadia University; and the Connaught Fund and the Emilio
Goggio Chair in Italian Studies at the University of Toronto.
