Hi Everyone,

 

Happy New Year!  

 

Dr. Michael Brundage is a radiation oncologist in the Kingston area,
connected to PCC and a member of our Research Advisory Council.

He has  invited support groups across the country to participate in a
research study that the John Hopkins University School of Medicine is
conducting in the US.

 

They are reaching out to men who have experienced prostate cancer for their
help with a research project.   The overall goal of the project is to
develop best-practices for how to let men and their families know about
“outcomes” that patients themselves report. 

 

Patient reported outcomes (PROS) such as quality of life findings are often
used in patient care.  For example, patients may report their symptoms or
their well-being on the day of their clinic visit for their health care team
to review.   Or, PRO findings from clinical studies may be used to let men
know what to expect with new treatments.  

 

We think that a “picture is worth a thousand words”, and we are examining
different ways of displaying PROS to patients and their families. 

 

Can you help by sending out this information to your groups?  

 

Patients are needed to complete a short survey and provide feedback about
different ways of displaying PROS.  The study has been funded by
peer-reviewed research and has been approved by the Ethics Board of Johns
Hopkins School of Medicine.  Participation is entirely voluntary and all
responses are kept completely anonymous and confidential.  A survey
invitation is attached and can also be found at www.prosinpractice.com.
