Dear faculty,

Please see the below message. As you'll see, the Faculty Committee on Student Appeals needs members. The commitment is light and they're looking for representatives from every discipline, so SSPHR voices would be very welcome.

If you're interested in joining the pool, please write to arts.appeals at uwaterloo.ca to express your interest.

This is an important opportunity to serve the Faculty!

Many thanks,

Ian

==========

Dear Arts faculty members,

The Faculty Committee on Student Appeals (FCSA) is seeking full-time faculty members from all disciplines and ranks to serve as part of the FCSA tribunal pool retroactive to September 1, 2026, until August 31, 2028.
Each tribunal is a 3-person panel made up of:

  * The Chair of the FCSA
  *
A faculty representative (that could be you!)
  *
A student representative

Action item: If you are interested in joining the pool of faculty tribunal representatives, please write to arts.appeals at uwaterloo.ca to express your interest.
FCSA tribunals review student appeals related to disciplinary decisions and grievances, as outlined in Policy 70 (Student Petitions and Grievances) and Policy 71 (Student Discipline). The process follows the guidelines in Policy 72 (Student Appeals).
What to Expect:

  *
Virtual meetings: Tribunals are held on MS Teams, lasting 30 to 90 minutes depending on the number and complexity of appeal cases (typically 1–2 cases per tribunal).
  *
Time commitment for tribunal representatives is minimal as the FCSA tries to avoid asking faculty to serve on more than one tribunal per term. Faculty representatives appointed to a tribunal will be asked to review all case documents prior to the meeting, usually made available one week ahead of the meeting date.
  *
Meetings occur during UWaterloo business hours (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).

We aim to have multiple representatives from each discipline to ensure availability and avoid conflicts of interest.
If you would like additional information about the FCSA or student appeals, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you!
